The mock wedding dress

Saturday it just had to be overcast. Any other day of shooting I would have been rejoicing. The five day forecast said Mondays wedding would be bright and sunny. What rotten luck this whole week. Overcast + practicing = poo. In the (past tense) words of Tim Gunn we (Chandra and myself) made it work. Chandra being the fabulous person she is brought a wonderful mock wedding dress for some good ol' practice. We had a great time shuffling around the grounds of the Hilton while onlookers thought we were a pair of bride and photographer (haha not groom people!). It was hilarious, fun and unforgettable seeing Chandra in a wedding dress, black leggings and a veil to top it all off.
I also forced Chandra to use her external flash which, she said she would blog about the frustration and stress I had put on her. I can't wait to see that blog post : ) We discovered the wonder of flash but had many frustrations along the way. Many MANY frustrations. I had moments of "I hate you camera" but soon got over it, thank goodness. I could never hate you camera, you bring light into my life... I'm not sure if I mean that literally or metaphorically or both : )

I will keep everyone posted here on the blog fo sho ; )
Here is a picture from me and Chandra's dramatic chapel day. And of course, like always, we laughed our booty's off and took a ton of pictures. Can't wait for that wedding!

A free mini workshop just for us photographers

I have been thinking about doing this for awhile now, and it is now time : ) I want to have a get together of a group of photographers no larger than 9 people. The purpose of this is to learn from one another and share our journey's thus far and to spread our knowledge to one another. It can be like a workshop but free. Any one and everyone can come, it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from...you are welcome : ) Though there are some qualifications. You must own a DSLR or SLR camera and be willing to work in the creative modes (if your not comfortable with it you can work in the automatic). You can own any brand of camera, this isn't for just Canon users, it's for everybody.
Tell your friends and anyone who is trying to break into the photography business or wanting to learn their camera's confusing functions. It will be fun an informative : )

Location: China Town ( we will be meeting in front of O'Tooles, there is only paid parking so bring cash and/or change!)

Time: 8am no later. Don't be late or you will be left behind! Be at least 5 minutes early. We will be finished at 1pm.

When: Tuesday October 12th. If most of you can not do a week day please message me and I will see if we can switch it to a weekend.

What to bring: Your camera equipment including lenses and a flash if you have one. Water bottle and a snack in case you get hungry : )

If you want to come please send me your name and phone number to my email: laurenlandphotography@gmail.com , send me a Facebook message, or leave a comment on this blog posting. I will keep an updated list of people who are attending on the blog.

If you have any questions feel free to ask! I can't wait!

Chandra + Lauren's mini workshop

Yesterday was like a breath of fresh air. My good friend Chandra (and fellow photographer) and I decided to go to Chinatown for a mini lets-help-each-other- out-workshop. We went to a part of China Town (the REAL China Town) that I have never been too before and didn't even realize was there. I never saw so many banana's in one place. It was so beautiful and quaint. Everyone had their carts filled with produce and the sunlight looked so pretty beaming down through the trees. I loved it. We also practiced inside O'Tooles for some low light shots and found an amazing brick wall and a pink alley way. Too cool. Here are a few of my shots of Miz. Chandra :
Doing this with Chandra made me realize something...I love being around other photographers and also sharing any knowledge I have. That being said I want to have a mini just for fun workshop for any photographers out there. I don't care who you are, you can come. I will write more about it in my next blog. Check back!!

Today's workshop

Today was yet another wonderful day. I spent all day at and around the Double Tree Hotel in Waikiki learning photography. I took Okello Dunkley's Photography workshop which taught me sooooo much. I met some wonderful people and enjoyed Okello and his teachings. We learned advanced settings for flash, all the camera settings and some Pocket Wizard stuff and MUCH more. After all is was eight hours. I am so very thankful I own a Canon, because it is the best of the best..well to me at least : ) Sorry all you Nikon people out there I'm not trying to diss your camera, Canon is just my preference.
I can't wait to get out in the world and try everything I learned. It's going to be AWSOME!

Hope everyone is having as great a weekend as I am!!
